First, let me give you the brief of what this is about.
All of my Substack subscribers are going to be consolidated into my two main Substacks, The Forge, and the new Uncomfortably Correct (I’ll explain in a minute)
This will be a good thing for you. If you enjoyed my work at Stoking the Embers, you’ll enjoy what I do at The Forge. It’s Catholic Commentary on news and culture, and also spiritual reflections.
This will not result in a flood of emails, so don’t worry
No Email bombardment. I explain below
Reason for this restructuring (some may want to know, so I explain below)
Payed Members
I’m so grateful to you guys for supporting my work, but at this stage it would be unethical for me to continue taking your money at Stoking the Embers, since I’ve effectively stopped publishing here—a result I didn’t expect when I launched The Forge. So I have paused paid subscriptions here indefinitely and you’ll no longer be charged. Existing paid members here will get a complimentary upgrade to “Paid’ over at The Forge once the migration/consolidation is complete.
I would love for you guys to support my work as paid members at The Forge if you’re still willing and interested in supporting what I do, after your complimentary upgrade expires.
The Forge
It’s “Catholic Commentary at the Point of Impact” Commentary and analysis of news, culture, spiritual reflections, similar to what you enjoy at Stoking the Embers. It’s where I do most of my publishing these days.
Uncomfortably Correct
This is my new Substack, where I’ll publish my personal thoughts, commentary, reactions, and reflections on culture, religion, and spirituality (always through a Catholic lens) and occasionally post fun things about classic cinema, and music from our past. Subscriber lists will also be copied to that new Substack.
The Forge and Uncomfortably Correct are all about formation of Catholic intellect, Catholic attitude, and Catholic identity. It’s the same mission as that of Stoking the Embers, but from a slightly different direction.
No Email Bombardment
At its prime, StE was sending out 3 emails per week. That won’t change with this restructuring
The Forge: One to two emails per week.
Uncomfortably Correct: One email per week, at most and likely less frequently than that.
This restructuring will better fit my busy busy life, it’ll make the work more enjoyable for me, and more enjoyable for you.
Why the Restructuring
Over the past several months I’ve stepped away from Stoking the Embers to focus on The Forge and on my Catholic podcasting ventures. After several months of that pause, I think it’s time to permanently move forward. Spirituality pieces are harder for me to write, they take much longer, and they have not been well received, because they tend to go deeper than the average Catholic reader wants to go. So this restructuring, I think, is going to make all of my subscribers happy, and it’ll make the work more manageable and more natural for me.
